St. Moritz
St. Moritz was the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism (1864). Nowadays, it is regarded throughout the world as the top address among the alpine holiday destinations.
St. Moritz is a guarantee for outstanding leisure and sports events, cultural highlights and a wide variety of shopping facilities. International guests are attracted to the resort’s modern alpine lifestyle, which it owes, among other things, to its highly renowned first-class hotels and some of the best restaurants in Switzerland.
Also of correspondingly high-calibre are the events held on the frozen Lake St. Moritz – from the White Turf horse races, the St. Moritz Polo World Cup and the Gourmet Festival to Cricket on Ice and Art on Ice. And for extreme sport fans, there is the legendary Cresta Run and the only natural-ice bob run in the world. After staging two Winter Olympics (in 1928 and 1948) – the only ones to be held in Switzerland to date – and four Alpine World Ski Championships, St. Moritz is currently bidding to host the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.
