St. Moritz wins a British Travel Award
On November 2, the British Travel Awards 2011 were awarded in London. St. Moritz won gold, earning the “Best European Ski Resort” accolade.
Around 1,000 British travel experts attended the presentation of the British Travel Awards 2011 on Wednesday in London. At the gala, St. Moritz was crowned “Best European Ski Resort” – ahead of Val D’Isère (second place) and Chamonix (third).
The various candidates for the awards were nominated by experts from the British travel industry. The final winners, however, were chosen by the British travelling public – more than 700,000 votes were cast. “We are very proud to receive this recognition from our British guests,” sais Ariane Ehrat, managing director of Engadin St. Moritz, “especially because St. Moritz has such a long tradition of hosting British visitors.”
The fact that these accolades are awarded by both experts and the public is one reason why the British Travel Awards are also regarded as the “Oscars” of the industry. British Travel Awards’ chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “The British Travel Awards is the largest awards programme in the UK, created to reward travel companies, with the winning accolade being the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer. This year the competition was fierce and St. Moritz is to be congratulated on their achievement.”
