Child-friendly chairlifts
In order for children to be able to use a chairlift without feeling scared, two of Switzerland’s first 4-seater chairlifts with special child-friendly safety features were installed in Celerina (Tschainas) in 2005 and in Zuoz (Chastlatsch) in 2007. The seats have overhead restraining bars that are fitted with a double safety bar at the front. When closed, the bar stops small children from sliding off the seat.
In order to be able to transport adults, too, the seats have no footrests – the distance between the footrest and the bar would have been too small. This absence of footrests has another advantage: children are not able to stand up in their seat. The automatic safety bar is padded, and cannot be opened during the ride.
