Bob rides for visitors
Speed: 130kph (80mph). Centrifugal force: 4.5 G. Fun factor: maximum. A guest ride on St. Moritz’s bob run offers 75 seconds of pure adrenalin. Anyone thundering down the ice track in a four-man bob with a professional pilot and brakeman will find their nerves tested to the limit – not least at the legendary "Horse-Shoe" corner. All guests receive a certificate as proof of their achievement: a speed thrill open to any adventurer with a healthy heart. Weather permitting, the bob guest rides are offered almost every day throughout the winter season, although weekends are reserved primarily for sponsors.
Bob taxi rides – a long tradition with an adrenalin kick
Already at the end of the 1930s, Nino Bibbia took dauntless ladies on a ride in his bob from St. Moritz to Celerina. In those days, the trips were carried out in a ‘Feierabend’ bob, named after its designer. However, the 15 bobs that are now used for the taxi rides for guests are a far cry from the Feierabend models of yesteryear. They comprise a slightly modified bobsleigh based on the modern four-man-sled, and are piloted by an expert driver and accompanied by a brakeman.
The second and third positions are where the taxi guests sit.
The taxi rides are carried out every day after the training sessions or races, whereby the weekends are reserved for the sponsors. Moreover, they can also only be held to a limited degree, if at all, during international events. The run from the start in St.Moritz to the finish in Celerina, extending a total of 1,722 m (5,650 ft), lasts just 75 seconds. At the Horse Shoe bend, it reaches a centrifugal force of 4.5G and leading up to the Martineau Corner speeds of up to 135 km (84 miles) per hour. The scraping of the brakes on the ice after negotiating the Portago Corner signals the end of the trip.
