Culinary hikes in St. Moritz

Hiking to culinary heights

According to the press, hiking is back in fashion – no doubt due in part to the fact that more and more frequently an enjoyable hike can be combined with equally enjoyable food. And what better place is there to indulge oneself than St. Moritz, where Alpine huts and gourmet restaurants serving a wide range of culinary treats are waiting to pamper hungry hikers.

Numerous gastronomic establishments scattered around the mountainsides offer a first-class alternative to a traditional picnic from the rucksack. In St. Moritz, it is now possible to hike to culinary heights.

Breakfast at over 3,000m above sea level
Hiking enthusiasts who heed the tips from the locals and head off up the Piz Nair in the early hours of the morning are richly rewarded for their efforts by a top breakfast in the mountain restaurant. On their return to the Corviglia summit station, they can enjoy lunch on the terrace of the gourmet restaurant, La Marmite. Anyone who is still keen for more can either stop off at the Restaurant Trutz and tuck into good hearty fare, or finish off their hike on a sweet note by treating themselves to a delicious cream slice at the el paradiso mountain hut. Those who prefer to take things more easily can cover part of the route using the mountain transport facilities. During the summer season, some 90 Engadin hotels are offering their guests free use of the 13 railways and cableways – as well as, in some cases, the local public transport – from the second night of their stay.

Enormous choice for gourmets
Back in St. Moritz, there are countless possibilities of rounding off a great day’s hiking with some sophisticated fine dining. For example, in one of the 18 restaurants that have been awarded GaultMillau points in recognition of their culinary excellence. Or in the Restaurant “La Baracca”, where cuisine meets culture. Indeed, the choice is vast; in St. Moritz, every gourmet is guaranteed to find something to his or her taste.
