
At local song and music festivals, it creates a colourful visual framework: the traditional Engadin costume brightens up each and every event.
The traditional dress worn in the Engadin is made of scarlet wool cut in a style dating from the French rococo period. It is thought to have been brought to the high-lying Alpine valley in the 18th century by noblewomen and officers returning home. It is still greatly admired to this day – particularly thanks to its attractive, vibrant colours.
