How the Morteratsch Glacier got its name.

Once upon a time, on the “lost mountain”, the Munt Pers, there lived a beautiful fairy. She loved to bathe in the Lej da la Diavolezza, much to the delight of the young huntsmen, who invariably threw caution to the wind and followed her ‒ never to be seen again. This fate also befell a youth named Aratsch. It is said that during the night you can hear the wind imparting the sad news: “Mort ais Aratsch!” (Aratsch is dead). Thus it was that the glacier got its name: Morteratsch.
