Lej Nair - Lago Bianco

Lej Nair - Lago Bianco

 open  partly open   closed

The Bernina Express reaches its highest point at 2,238 metres, just before you catch sight through the train window of the little Lej Nair, which collects its murky-brown water in a peaty depression before despatching it through the Val Bernina to the River Inn. By way of contrast, just seconds later the white water of the Lago Bianco comes into view. This large mountain lake owes its colour to the milky meltwater from the Cambrena Glacier. Disembark from the train at the top of the pass and follow the Lago Bianco southwards. On the southern shore of the lake, you can opt to push on further into the Poschiavo Valley and then down to Alp Grüm. Here you can either board the next train or follow the lake shore back to Lej Nair. Both variants are an Alpine delight!
