10th Anniversary ENGADINSNOW

Due to strong winds the Freeride Contest had to be cancelled out of safety reasons. At the same time, we can proudly confirm the participation of the actual Youth Olympic winner and X-Games favourite in freeskiing, Kai Mahler, attending the slopestyle comp.

The storm "Andrea" at the beginning of this year and strong winds with more than 100km/h the last couple of days blew the snow out of the faces in the region of corvatsch. The snowlayers and the rocky bits are not giving save enough conditions to run the freeride part of the event. So, unfortunately just at the 10th edition of the event the discipline of Freeride is missing.

Though the second part of the contest can be accomplished as planned. On monday, 30th of January, the new Olympic discipline of slopestyle, will be opened by the snowboarders. The Ticket to Ride World Tour (TTR) takes a stop in the Engadin. The other new Olympic discipline, slopestyle in freeskiing, takes its turn from Thursday, 2nd of February, on. Kai Mahler, 16 years old, the new winner of the Youth Olympic games, will be the guy everybody will pay attention to.

From the 30th of January 2012 the ENGADINSNOW has its full focus on the freestylers. The best snowboarders in the world can prove their skill as a part of the Swatch Ticket to Ride (TTW) World Tour in the discipline of Slopestyle from the 30.01. until the 02.02. After this the Slopestyle Contest of the freeskiers is taking place from the 03.02. until the 05.02. This year’s edition is being sanctioned by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) and is a gold event of the Swisscom Freeski Tour in Switzerland. Slopestyle is about to have its big break through and has its premiere in the Olympic program as part of the Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi.
