This delicious cake has its origins in the Fuatscha grassa, a round, buttery cake that most Engadin families used to enjoy on a Sunday.

Engadin confectioners refined this cake by adding cream, caramel and walnuts, and so created the Tuorta da nusch engiadinaisa. Engadin walnut cakes of all sizes are available from the confectioneries of Hanselmann and Hauser in St. Moritz.
