The Engadin St. Moritz region owes its worldwide renown not least to the extraordinary beauty of its high, lake-strewn plateau. A walk along the three lakes, frozen in winter, offers an experience of special magic.

The path leads from the St. Moritz Cross-Country Ski Centre to the Olympic ski jump, past frozen Lej Marsch and down to Lej Champfèr. It continues on the left-hand side of the valley to Surlej, before following the shore of Lake Silvaplana to Sils.

At the Chastè peninsula, you step onto frozen Lake Sils, and continue walking into the sun as far as Maloja.

Start: St. Moritz Cross-Country Ski Centre (parking available)
Finish: Maloja
Distance: 16 km (10 miles)
Hiking time: 6½ hours

In Maloja, you can take the bus back to St Moritz.
