Pioneering feats

In Engadin St. Moritz, tradition means in particular pioneering achievements: winter tourism was born here in 1864, Switzerland’s first electric light was switched on here in 1878, and the first ski school in Switzerland opened here in 1929.

In the winter of 2014/2015 St. Moritz, Engadin and Switzerland celebrated 150 years of winter tourism. And as the birthplace of winter tourism St. Moritz was set to take centre stage.

In 1929, the St. Moritz Tourist Board and the Alpina Ski Club asked ski instructor, Giovanni Testa, to found the St. Moritz Ski School.
