The accommodation belonging to the Salecina Foundation is not a hotel, or an alpine hut, or a youth hostel; it is quite simply a unique centre for holiday guests and course participants. Open all year round, it is equally suitable for individual guests, families, groups and school classes. What is it that makes Salecina so special? Its magnificent location in the famous Upper Engadin valley, high up on the Maloja Pass 1,800 m above sea level, and close to the border to Italy and the Bregaglia Valley. And its setting amidst one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, in summer a sea of flowers, and in winter an easily accessible ski area abounding in powder snow. Every year, people from all over Europe come together at the Salecina. The many different languages, cultural backgrounds and ages give rise to interesting conversations, discussions and encounters. The keyword here is “self-organisation” – guests cook, clean and organise everything themselves. Everyone lends a hand and thus contribute towards the general well-being. Seminars are held throughout the year on all manner of subjects, including politics, history, language learning (Italian and German), ecological issues, choir singing, dancing and skiing. Salecina is also an environmentally-friendly house: it uses wood for heating, regional produce is favoured, and waste is sorted and recycled.
